How to Measure & Cut a Cut-to-Fit Ostomy Barrier

How to Measure & Cut a Cut-to-Fit Ostomy Barrier – Beyond Pharmacy guide

A good seal starts with a good cut. Here's how to size a cut-to-fit barrier correctly.

Measure the stoma

Use the measuring guide that comes with your supplies. Measure the widest diameter; for oval stomas, note length and width.

Cut the opening

Cut the cut-to-fit barrier 1–2 mm larger than the stoma — snug but not touching. Smooth any rough edges.

Apply

Fill creases with paste, warm the barrier in your hands, then apply to clean, dry skin and hold to seal.
