DuoDERM vs Tegaderm: How to Choose the Right Dressing

DuoDERM vs Tegaderm: How to Choose the Right Dressing – Beyond Pharmacy guide

Two of the most requested advanced dressings in India are ConvaTec DuoDERM and 3M Tegaderm. They solve different problems — here's how to pick the right one.

The short answer

Choose a hydrocolloid (DuoDERM) when a wound has some exudate and you want a moist healing environment that absorbs fluid and protects new tissue. Choose a transparent film (Tegaderm) when you need to see and protect a low-exudate site such as an I.V. catheter, surgical closure or graze under a waterproof, breathable barrier.

DuoDERM — hydrocolloid dressings

Hydrocolloids turn wound fluid into a soft gel, keeping the bed moist while shielding it from contamination — a mainstay for pressure ulcers, leg ulcers and skin tears.

Tegaderm — film & island dressings

Films are thin, see-through and waterproof; they shine on low-exudate sites where visibility and a sterile barrier matter.
